Top French official reveals pregnancy on Facebook

The French, including their politicians, take Facebook seriously.

Cabinet member Nathalie Kosciusko-Morizet announced her pregnancy on the social networking site Wednesday.

She says on her Facebook page, "these things are more and more visible with time. And I couldn't keep it under wraps much longer."

Kosciusko-Morizet's choice of venue was fitting given her Cabinet position: She is secretary of state for the digital economy. She says she will give birth this summer.

She made her announcement at a time of fierce speculation about an expected government shake-up after European parliamentary elections in June.

France has taken a shine to Facebook. The Palo Alto, California-based company says 13 percent of France's population has an account.
