The families of deployed National Guardsmen and Reservists are eligible for free family memberships at participating YMCAs. The membership is available while the family member is deployed for a minimum of six months.
The Guardsman or Reservist is eligible for three months of membership before and after the deployment as a way of promoting family participation.
The program begins this month.
The same program offers 32 hours a month of free respite child care in 10 states with YMCA child care programs approved by the Defense Department.
Respite child care is currently available in Maryland, Montana, North Carolina, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, Virginia and Washington.
To sign up for the program, a DOD/YMCA eligibility form is required. It can be found at www.militaryonesource.com.
A copy of deployment orders and a military ID may be required.
